Welcome to Oakfields Community College. We are an 11 – 16 mixed school serving the young people of Middlesbrough. Our motto is ‘Learning for Life’ because learning is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that learning empowers our students and gives them the very best opportunities and chances in life. We also believe that learning is about more than the time a young person spends at school, it continues throughout life. For this reason we aim to become a learning hub for the wider community we serve, offering a range of learning opportunities that can be accessed by people of all ages. We set high expectations and standards for our students. In return we offer them a high quality education which meets their individual needs and inspires them to set their sights high.
Oakfields on the Neil Green Radio Show
On Friday 27th April 2012 a group of Year 10 students gave a presentation outlining why they should be given funding to purchase an electric kit car. The format was a ‘dragon’s den’ style scenario where they really had to sell the idea to the Regional Manager at UK Steel Enterprises. The students had to present themselves in a professional and committed manner if they were to stand a chance of achieving a successful bid. Following the boardroom meeting the students were given funding to purchase and build the kit car which they will race against other cars from different schools around the North East. During the build process the students will need to design the bodywork themselves taking into consideration materials and aerodynamics. Please listen to the link which featured on the Neil Green BBC Radio Tees Programme.
DOUBLE WINNERS
Congratulations to the A Team Year 7 Football team who are now the League and Town Cup Champions. The cup final was on 25th April at the MFC Training Ground - Hurworth. The match was played against Macmillan College in very very wet conditions.
On Wednesday 11th April 2012, 26 students from Oakfields Community College descended on the Gadget Show Live at the NEC Arena in Birmingham. The visit was organised to allow students to experience future technologies and give them vital knowledge that would improve their performance in GCSE ICT and Computing qualifications the school currently teaches and plans to launch. Much emphasis has been placed on the understanding of how technology functions by the Education Minister Mr Michael Gove. This trip was vital in exposing our students to technologies they perhaps would not otherwise see.
